Creativity Club | Overcome Overthinking

  • Tue 3 Jun 16:00 - 19:00
  • PL99-1.320 (Physical Prototyping Lab)

You’re lying in bed, unable to sleep because you just keep thinking about—well, everything really. Or you’ve been sitting in the library for three hours staring at your screen because you want to weigh all the options first. Deadlines, exams, future plans—you want to get it right. Make the perfect choice. But in the meantime… nothing happens. Sound familiar?

Thinking things through is perfectly fine, of course. Sometimes you need to sort things out before taking action. But there’s a tipping point: the moment thinking turns into getting stuck. You explore every possibility, weigh every detail, but don’t move forward. You’re paralyzed by choice overload and indecision. And the longer you ruminate, the harder it becomes to take action. Yep—that’s what we call overthinking.

Especially toward the end of the academic year, overthinking is very real for many students. During Creativity Club | Overcome Overthinking, we’ll help you break free from that stream of thoughts. Not in a vague or spiritual way—but simply by making something. By doing. You can choose between two creative workshops: photography or collage session. You’ll work with your hands, with materials, with light and shape. Because creativity helps you get out of your head and into the moment. While you’re creating, you’ll also pick up tools that can help you shift gears faster—next time you’re stuck in a mental loop. And the best part: no skills required. Just joining in is enough.

Do you ever get stuck in your own thoughts? Then sign up for one of the free workshops, and give yourself a moment to breathe. To feel a little more space, fun, and ease in your mind. You don’t have to figure it all out alone—you’ll meet other students who sometimes get stuck in their heads too. Maybe you’ll hear something that helps, or maybe just realizing you’re not the only one will be enough.

Workshop Photography

In this workshop by photographer Korosh ‘Koko’ Shahbaz we combine the theme of overthinking with creative expression through smartphone photography and movement. During this workshop you’ll take pictures of breakdancer Nathan, who will portray a creative interpretation of what  overthinking can look like in dance. You will reflect on how overthinking affects you, and how you can visually represent these inner processes. Through dance, photography and post-processing you will create a personal image that reflects your experience or interpretation of overthinking.

Workshop Collage

This workshop is all about tapping into your creativity and connecting with others. Tosia and Alicja, founders of Studio Spoko, will guide you step by step through the art of collage, from gathering inspiration and materials to creating your own unique masterpiece. They know better than anyone else how making a collage can help you stop overthinking, Tosia herself used making collages as a method to stop overthinking!

Whether you’re trying collage for the first time or simply looking for a peaceful moment in your week, this session is here to help you explore, get crafty, and most of all, enjoy the process of making!

About Creativity Club

Art and cultural expressions are a reflection of the time we live in. So what better way to explore and shape the topics that matter to you, than by getting creative with them yourself? Each edition focuses on a theme that resonates with you, accompanied by workshops that dive deeper into it. Share your thoughts with fellow students, and pick up new creative skills along the way.

Accessibility

The theatre hall is located on the ground floor of PL99 and is wheelchair accessible. There is also a wheelchair accessible toilet. The programme is open to both Dutch and international students. The lunch will be vegetarian. Do you have special needs or wishes such as a Dutch sign language interpreter? We are happy to think along with you about the possibilities. Please contact us via podium@hu.nl.
