7:15 PM – doors open
7:30 – 8:15 PM – interview with Rosa Surachno
8:30 – 10 PM – workshops
10 PM – socialise with free drink
Do you ever feel overwhelmed by having to choose from too many options? No wonder. Our daily lives are overflowing with decisions, ranging from choosing the right study that’ll lead to that *perfect career path*, to deciding on which social event we want to attend tonight — cause we don’t want to miss out!
High expectations, fear of failing or becoming trapped in an infinite cycle of weighing options without reaching a conclusion. Sometimes it seems impossible to do the right thing. During this evening, we’re going to learn to choose with confidence, and avoid post-decision regret. In an interview with expert Rosa Surachno, we’ll dive deeper into what factors play a role in the fact that our generation seems to struggle so much with making choices. Like many others, Rosa got a burn-out due to her busy life. She decided to dive into why this generation doesn’t allow itself room to fail, make ‘wrong’ decisions and to miss things.
After the interview we’ll break out in workshop groups to explore creative perspectives to help you destroy your dilemmas, and have some fun with it! All workshops are entry-level, so no previous knowledge is required. Afterwards we’ll meet in the Parnassos bar to socialise and share what we’ve learned. With a drink on the house of course!
Workshops
Creative writing: the beauty of unpredictability
Every story has countless possible plots and endings. So writers are essentially professional decision-makers. In this creative writing workshop, we’ll explore how our choices shape the lives of our fictional characters. If anything, literature is brimming with characters who make questionable (or blatantly bad) life choices. And don’t we love them for it? Our fictional friends remind us that dilemmas create the best stories.
Painting: the joy of missing out
Have you heard about the Joy of Missing Out (JOMO)? This mindset encourages you to live in the moment, without constantly thinking of the next thing in your agenda. JOMO advocates less stimuli, more peace, the freedom to say no, and creating a deeper relationship with yourself and the people around you. In this workshop, we will put this attitude into practice by painting without worrying about the result. Using a broad brush, simple patterns and just one color, you will soon surrender to the spontaneous, minimalist movements that will emerge out of nowhere!
Theatre: improvising the future
Making choices, whether big or small, can be quite a challenge. But what if you could use a crystal ball and see how things would turn out if you’d gone in a different direction? Well, during this workshop you can! Using theatrical exercises, we’ll re-enact different scenarios an possible outcomes. You can come up with your own dilemmas, or be surprised by other people’s ideas. The goal is to have fun with the topic, instead of getting overwhelmed.
Personal leadership: taking control of your attention and time
Do you often wonder how to divide your attention between an overload of opportunities and possibilities? Are you a true FOMO-sapien? In this workshop, you will learn how to take control of your time. Using a specific method, we uncover and address your pain points. It will be confronting, but you will immediately get the tools to do something about it. We’ll focus on owning your decisions without worrying too much about missing out or disappointing others. Start making decisions with less stress!
