15:45-16:00 walk-in
16:00-18:00 cooking together
18:00-19:00 eating together
Freedom to be who you are. Freedom to say what you think. Freedom to feel safe, whether at home or far from home. This edition of Food Club takes place just after Liberation Day – a fitting moment to pause and reflect on something that, for a long time, seemed so self-evident in the Netherlands: freedom. But freedom is not a given. It is fragile, changeable, and not equally distributed everywhere. The world is in motion. A good reason to come together, to share stories, and to reflect. Because everyone has their own association with freedom – whether it’s about personal freedom or freedom in the (inter)national context. This Food Club isn’t about solving big problems, but about creating connection – and what better way to do that than by cooking and eating together?
We’re inviting four students, each with their own background, association with freedom, and favourite recipe. Together with them, you’ll get to work in the kitchen. And while chopping and baking, tasting and sharing, there’s space for encounters, for conversation, and maybe even for new insights. What does freedom mean – to you? To someone else? Maybe you’ve never really thought about it. Maybe your answer will change after this evening.
Come by and be surprised by flavors you may not have known, and stories you hadn’t heard before. Because it’s precisely when we eat together and truly engage in conversation that boundaries seem to blur for a moment. And maybe that’s where freedom begins: in seeing and hearing each other, at a shared table. So come cook with us!
Would you like to join for dinner, but prefer not to cook? Drop by at 18:00 to see if there’s still a spot!
About Food Club
Cooking up tasty and beautiful dishes is an artform! Each Food Club has a unique theme, where you and your fellow students can unleash your creativity in the kitchen. Whether baking or cooking, you’ll pick up new skills, and afterwards we’ll all sit down to enjoy the delicious results and good vibes.
WANTED:
For our Food Clubs we are always looking for students who like to guide a group of fellow students during the cooking workshop and teach them one of their recipes. Sounds fun? Send us an email via podium@hu.nl for more info. Bonus: you’ll get a €50,- gift voucher as a reward!
