Some see student life as one of the best times of their lives, but for many, this period is far from carefree. Deadlines, high expectations and a busy social life – it can all be pretty overwhelming. During the HU Wellbeing Day “How do I survive my student life?” you will gain knowledge on how to manage the challenges of student life, allowing you to experience this period with more balance and confidence.

Inspired by the popular Dutch book series ‘How do I survive…’ by Francine Oomen, this day offers a variety of workshops and lectures that address topics related to student life. Whether it’s worries about your finances or study choice, mental clutter, or other insecurities. The workshops provide practical tips and advice to help you manage your budget, make informed decisions about your future and bring peace to your mind and body.

Let's go

The English spoken programme

10:30 How to survive awkward conversations [workshop] (EN)

Are you confronted with negative thoughts and feelings of insecurity when interacting with others, such as “I’m not good enough” or “they don’t like me”? These thoughts can prevent you from truly listening and, as a result, hinder genuine connection. This workshop helps you to get out of your head and to be more present in conversations.

Feeling tense and overthinking every word you say during conversations can cause a lot of stress and discomfort. This workshop helps you become more aware of your thought patterns and gives you a playful introduction to mindful communication. You will learn three simple guidelines that you can apply in your interactions to help improve and deepen your relationship with both others and yourself.

12:00 How to survive my struggle with stress? [Workshop + Lunch] (EN)

Stress has its’ advantages and disadvantages. It gets us moving. And sometimes it paralyzes us. In this session you will get inspired on how to get to know your stress reactions. And how to focus on what you can influence in stressful (study) situations.

15:30 How do I survive physical tension? [Workhop]

Do you sometimes feel ‘stuck’, both physically and mentally? During your student years, a lot can come at you. You might feel overwhelmed by the pressure and stress of exams, assignments, and other obligations. In this dance workshop, you’ll literally shake off the tension and stress, helping you feel more comfortable in your own skin.

A large part of student life is spent seated. Sitting for long periods and being inactive can lead to a buildup of tension in your body. Over time, this can result in neck and back pain, as well as mental health challenges. This workshop helps you release tension through dancing, creating space to reconnect with your body and emotions, allowing you to reach a more relaxed state. You’ll achieve this through easy-to-follow movements set to great music.
