Note: the pub crawl includes some Dutch performances, however we as Podium still recommend this event as even without understanding the language this an experience you don’t want to miss out on. 

Are you already familiar with the Utrechtse Café Theater Festival? During this festival the boundaries between theater and catering are blurred and you will be faced with repeated surprises. Your table will simultaneously become a dance floor and a regular guest turns out to be an actor. Cafés suddenly become the backdrop for short performances full of theatre, hip-hop, spoken word, circus or opera.

Podium has created a package especially for HU students in which you can visit  3 performances and receive 3 drinks for 5 euros. A bargain! We all attend the performances together and there is time to talk and have drinks in between.

Important: make sure you have a bicycle with you because we will cycle from pub to pub!

Threading theaters presents ‘Brothers’
8:30 PM – Oproer Biercafé (Dance performance)

Inspired by their mutual friendship and experience as younger brothers of… Justin and Sem take you on a journey of support, competition, intimacy, and collaboration. They secure limbs and create openings through which they go together, both literally and figuratively.

Matrose presents ‘Koning Oedipus’
9:30 PM – Domtoren Pop-up Café (Spoken part of the performance is in Dutch)

The tragic story about the king who kills his father and marries his mother. Oedipus is the king of the city of Thebes. The people of Thebes stink and are covered in festering pimples. There is plague. You shouldn’t want that as king. If Oedipus finds the murderer of the former king, the plague will disappear.

Tante Ger & Mevreer Veer present ‘The Pink Bubble: Queer Circus’
10:30 PM – Hofman Café (Spoken part of the performance is in Dutch)

Spectacular, sensational, extraordinary. and utterly ordinary artists showcase their unique and never-before-seen acts! Mevreer Veer and Tante Ger welcome you to the Pink Bubble, a makeshift circus filled with lowbrow entertainment and high art.

Dancing bodies, singing actors, flickering lights, overwhelming sets: sharpen your senses and experience a real Theater Trip! Podium selects the most exciting performances of the moment on themes that matter. From futurism to committed drama, from cheerful stories to small-scale human suffering. We travel to various theater hotspots to see new work from major companies or up-and-coming talent.
